Stopping Windows Updates (Temporarily)

This is a quick tip if you find yourself in the situation where you need a PC to remain on (desperately!) but it keeps threatening to reboot and install updates. Simply type:

net stop "windows update"

into your command shell and hey presto, your computer will quietly sit still whilst you continue with your work. All being well, you should see the following output:

To turn them back on again, do the opposite:

net start "windows update"
