Increasing the Volume in Lubuntu

I was recently away on a break: you know the kind of relaxing thing…a weekend in a cold, windy southern town of England, with the rain lashing against your windows and a lot of time in the evening!

My plan was to watch Netflix or Kodi, but annoyingly, just as I was about to settle down, I realised that I had forgotten to buy an audio lead. No problem - I picked one up in the pound shop (a shop where mostly everything costs £1).

Back at the apartment, I went to plug it in to the computer and television and that’s when I realised that there was no input of that type on the television. Super-groan! My tinny little netbook just sounded terrible but worse still, I could hardly hear it.

So what can you do? Luckily, there is a way of boosting the amplification and that’s what I want to show you how to do now.

Step 1: Install pavucontrol

> sudo apt-get install pavucontrol

Step 2: Boost that audio!

Run pavucontrol:

> pavucontrol

Now click on Output Devices. In that tab, you will see two sliders: one labelled Front Left and the other Front Right. Slide them as far right as you like and then close the app.

You’re done!
